Active Noise Cancelling creates a counter-sound that neutralises outside noise. The microphone passes the noise to the ANC chip, which calculates and generates the counter-sound. This artificially generated sound makes it possible to eliminate most ambient noise. Of course, this is not desirable in every situation - sometimes you just need to be aware of the world around you, no matter how fascinating the sound is. That's why the ANC function of the noise-cancelling headphones can be expanded with the ambient mode (or also talk-through mode), depending on your personal mood or situation.
